Asma Fawaz al-Akhras

Syrian First Lady Asma al-Assad stands in the hull of a replica of a Phoenician ship being built on the Syrian island of Arwad, some 3 kms off the Mediterranean coastal city of Tartous, northwest of Damascus on July 19, 2008. The 21 meter long, hand made ship is being constructed using the first materials utilised by Phoenicians who lived in the region. The ship will be launched in August 2008, and will carry historians and geographers from all over the world following the ancient trade route which started in Arwad. The ship will then sail across to Africa ending its trip in 2009 in Britain where she will be put on display at a museum. Man at left is unidentified. (LOUAI BESHARA/AFP/Getty Images)
